State of the Bay 2016 Video
State of the Bay 2016 gives a video overview of the findings of the State of the Bay Report 2016. What is the current condition of the Barnegat Bay? Has the bay’s health changed over the last five years? See scientists in action monitoring water quality, fish and wildlife resources, and habitats and collecting data used to determine the status and trends of indicators of the bay’s health. Learn more about the plan (Comprehensive Conservation Management Plan) used to guide protection and restoration efforts for the bay and how the Barnegat Bay Partnership is using the latest science and public input to make revisions to the plan.
Because We Love Barnegat Bay
This series of seventeen 30-second videos showcases the everyday experiences of BBP partners and staff as they work to better understand and protect the bay they love. For some in the videos, it’s their life’s work as environmentalists; for others, it’s a chance to give back to the bay as volunteers.

Dr. Jim Merritt, Guardian of the Bay: Dr. Merritt is the recipient of the BBP’s 2015 Guardian of Barnegat Bay “Lifetime Achievement” award. He is an amazing educator, ReClam the Bay volunteer, expert kayaker, and dedicated protector of the bay.
LBIF Educator Angela Andersen: Angela, science educator at the Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts and Sciences, shares why healthy soil and native plants are important to the health of the bay.
Soil Health Education: YMCA summer day campers enjoy hands-on soil activities with Becky Laboy, Education Specialist at the Ocean County Soil Conservation District. Healthy soil is critical for clean water in the bay.
Tuckerton Seaport: Estuaries are more than just waterways.Communities thrive in the resource-filled watershed.Centuries of families have lived, worked, and played here. Tuckerton Seaport and Baymen’s Museum “bring the Jersey Shore’s rich maritime heritage to life.”
Sedge Islands Marine Conservation Zone: The only marine conservation zone in New Jersey is located at the southern end of Island Beach State Park. Lynette Lurig, NJDEP Scientist, talks about the new water trails, perfect for exploring the bay’s tidal marshes by kayak.
Sedge Island Natural Resource Education Center: High school and college students have a unique classroom right here in Barnegat Bay. At the Sedge Island center, they experience hands-on field work as they spend two exciting days in New Jersey’s remarkable estuarine environment.
Dr. Jim Merritt, Sedge Island Educator: Dr. Jim Merritt, NJ Fish and Wildlife educator, has taught thousands of Sedge Island visitors about the wonders of Barnegat Bay.

Barnegat Bay Partnership Estuary Educators: YMCA summer day campers learn about the fishes and crabs in the bay by seining with BBP educators.
Boating Education and Rescue: Mike and Debbie Bennett of Boating Education and Rescue (BEAR) have shared their knowledge of boating safety and marine debris prevention with thousands of children through their volunteer work.
ReClam the Bay: Did you know that millions of baby clams and oysters are being grown to help replenish the stocks in Barnegat Bay? Thanks to ReClam the Bay volunteers, we are learning how important and fragile the shellfish populations are in our estuary.
Ocean County Pump-Out Boats: The county has a fleet of boats committed to keeping the bay clean with their free pump-out services.
Conservation Officer and Clamming: Estuaries like Barnegat Bay are home to a variety of wildlife, both in the water and on land. State Conservation Officers are charged with protecting our wildlife.
Life on the Barnegat Bay is a documentary about the declining conditions in Barnegat Bay and the efforts of our partners to protect and restore it. Produced by the Barnegat Bay Partnership and Ocean TV-20 at Ocean County College, the film was originally broadcast on local cable television in January 2011.
Life on the Barnegat Bay features Pete McLain, who passed away in 2014. Pete was a wildlife biologist and deputy director of NJ Fish and Wildlife who lived and worked on the bay for over sixty years.
Tribute to Pete McLain records the memories of people who knew Pete during a memorial gathering at Island Beach State Park in 2014. Individuals from the environmental community share their wonderful stories about him and his many accomplishments.

This video by Samantha Chandler, a student at Lacey Township High School, is the First Place winner in the Barnegat Bay Partnership’s Protect Our Bay – Protect Our Future Art Contest, which was part of the 2016 Ocean County Teen Arts Festival.

Barnegat Bay Wetlands
This video describes the value of wetlands for flood protection, wildlilfe habitat, and water quality and shows researchers as they study the condition of the wetlands in the Barnegat Bay watershed before and after Hurricane Sandy. Aqua Kids at Barnegat Bay
Aqua Kids is a nationally syndicated children’s program which aims to “motivate today’s youth to take an active role in protecting and preserving our marine environments.” In the shows, a group of enthusiastic young adults get into the water and out on the marsh as they explore marine habitats through hands-on experiences. Viewers feel as if they are part of the action, and episodes highlight information about how to get involved in protecting our valuable marine resources.
In the spring of 2014, the BBP was contacted by George A. Stover III, creator and producer of AquaKids, about shooting in the Barnegat Bay region. BBP staff provided ideas, contacted partners about participating, and assisted with coordination of the schedule. In June, George and his crew of Aqua Kids and technical staff spent eight days shooting segments throughout the Barnegat Bay watershed.
The eight Barnegat Bay segments feature terrapins, wetlands, maritime forests, dunes, sustainable fishing, clamming, stranded marine mammals, maritime history and culture, and more.
